Are Jacuzzis and Hot Tubs the Same?

Are Jacuzzis and hot tubs the same? When talking about hot tubs, many people often use the word “jacuzzi” as a blanket term to describe all hot tubs or spas. Fun fact! Jacuzzis are hot tubs, but not all hot tubs are Jacuzzis. Jacuzzi is a brand of hot tub like Kleenex is a brand of tissues. The word jacuzzi is used to describe all brands of hot tubs. There are many brands of hot tubs or jacuzzis made with incredible quality, energy-efficiency, and special features. You can easily find a range of sizes to fit in the snuggest of spaces, or offer comfortable seating to every member of your family.

Jacuzzis and a Bit of Hot Tub History

The hot tub was originally invented by the Romans and they were called “balneae.” These hot tubs were made of stone and filled with heated water – it wasn’t until the 1950s that hot tubs began to be produced in a similar way to hot tubs today. It was then that Roy Jacuzzi, an inventor from California, patented the world’s first hot tub. The Jacuzzi hot tub was made of wood and had a water pump located within it. It allowed hot water to be pumped through holes in the hot tub decking, creating a bubbling effect that mimicked natural hot springs. Since then, hot tubs have come a long way. Many now call hot tubs Jacuzzis and vice versa. The word jacuzzi has become synonymous for hot tub. Many new hot tubs now feature unique shapes, built-in lighting, sound systems, and much more.
