7 Ways Technology Has Simplified Hot Tub Maintenance
Spa owners find hot tub maintenance easier than ever. It’s so easy to maintain a hot tub today. You no longer have to worry about restaining wood siding, and you might be surprised at how few chemicals you’ll use.
Consider these facts:
A hot tub manufactured in 2017 uses just 10 to 20 percent of the chlorine a similar model did in 1997
Today’s hot tub cabinets are made from low-maintenance, weather-resistant vinyl rather than wood
Today’s advanced hot tub filters can be cleaned in the dishwasher
We all face more time pressures than ever. It’s critical that our product is simple to maintain – and it is! Here are 7 ways we make it easy to maintain and enjoy your Hot Spring spa:
1. EASY BALANCING OF PH LEVELS
The term “pH balancing” can sound intimidating, but rest assured; it’s easy. Quick visual instructions and intuitive, on-the-spot measurements make pH balancing a breeze.
This video shows how to balance hot tub water pH for the first time:
2. SIMPLE HOT TUB WATER SANITIZATION
Water scientists and hot tub engineers have used technology to reduce the dependence on chlorine and bromine. While these chemicals are effective in killing bacteria by destroying cell walls, combining them with other systems like ozone and silver ions can greatly reduce the overall chemical demand.
Two devices manipulate molecules present in the water and add naturally-occurring ions.
You can now have crystal clear hot tub water with minimal chemical use.
First, manufacturers have adapted Ozone generators to convert oxygen (O2) to ozone (O3 and also called Active Oxygen). In the ACE® Water Care System, an option for our Limelight®, Highlife® and Highlife® NXT models, the Hot Spring ozonator contains a patented diamond electrode that breaks apart the water molecule, turning it into Active Oxygen which penetrates bacterial cell walls, killing it.
Active Oxygen pairs easily with salt, turning it into a chlorine sanitizer. This chlorine sanitizer avoids the production of chloramines, chlorine by-products that cause that chlorine smell, red eyes and dry skin. Salt levels are so low, however, owners can’t even taste it. This break-through serves as a powerful, natural cleanser.
This video below demonstrates the ongoing care for the ACE Water Care System that takes just minutes once each week and month. The ACE hot tub salt water care system is the closest to hands-free maintenance for any hot tub on the market:
The second chlorine and maintenance-reducing device engineers have paired with hot tubs is the high output ozone system. The system generates a high concentration of ozone that works to neutralize contaminants on contact. As the hot tub water circulates, it passes through a unit that releases electrified silver ions. Like the salt-enabled chlorine sanitizer, these ions penetrate cell walls of bacteria and algae. This tried and true hot tub water cleaning method is employed in the Hot Spring® EverFresh®water care system, and is standard on all Hot Spring spas.
Monitor and control your hot tub with our wireless Connextion® app from any location globally.
3. REMOTE, PUSH-BUTTON, REAL-TIME HOT TUB MONITORING
In 2014, Watkins Wellness™, manufacturer of Hot Spring Spas, introduced Connextion™, a wireless communication system between dealer, owner and tub that operates via a globally-connected app. For any owner connected to computers and phones throughout the day, keeping the spa clean, locked and warm is a matter of a few clicks or taps. A spa that notifies owners when it needs more attention – if only your spouse did that!
Our dishwasher-safe, long-lasting, ceramic hot tub filter cartridge lasts for years.
4. HOT TUB FILTER INNOVATIONS TO MINIMIZE MAINTENANCE
While the paper filter still does a fine job for many hot tub owners, Hot Spring created an updated alternative: the Tri-X® Ceramic Cartridge.
This filter’s unique design and ceramic material allows twice the water to cross the filter per minute. Some owners get four to six years of use from their Tri-X filters. As an added convenience, the Tri-X filter can be cleaned in the dishwasher (without soap).

Our rigid polymer and advanced non-porous acrylic shells resist dirt and germs.
6. WIPE-CLEAN SPA CABINETS AND SHELLS
Today’s busy consumers need their relaxation stations to be beautiful AND easy to maintain. Hot tub cabinets today are made from a synthetic material that requires only the dusting and spraying your patio furniture gets from time to time. These cabinets require no stain or weatherproofing; they resist moisture, spa chemicals and sunlight far better than stained wood.
Inner shells, too, have come a long way. Our rigid polymer and advanced non-porous, ABS-backed acrylic hot tub shells are impervious to dirt and germs. Cleaning simply requires wiping during the bi-annual water exchange. Owners tackle calcium build up with Hot Spring Stain and Scale Defense, if necessary.
Our Energy Smart labels promote our highly energy efficient hot tub models.
7. ULTRA ENERGY-EFFICIENT HOT TUBS
You can find an energy efficient hot tub more easily today than ever before. With pumps that use less energy than a 40-watt bulb, insulation used in industrial freezers and hot tub covers that lock tight, most Hot Spring spas add just $15 to $30 per month to the owner’s electric bill.
TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENTIFIC ADVANCES MAKE THE HOT TUB THE LOW-MAINTENANCE STAYCATION OF CHOICE!
Today’s spas take 10 minutes once per week, 20 minutes once per month and maybe 30 minutes every 90 days to maintain at their very best. Every six to twelve months, owners drain hot tubs to replace, rebalance and reheat the water. A top quality hot tub makes the owner’s home and life more beautiful.
